When a new employee is added to the payroll it is the employers' responsibility to ensure they meet the employees’ rights. One of the issues that must be considered is the employees’ length of continuous employment. Continuous employment is calculated from the first day of work without a break.<\/p>\n

The length of continuous employment gives certain rights to employees, including maternity pay, flexible working requests and redundancy pay.<\/p>\n

Infrequent breaks in normal employment still count towards a continuous employment period. These are:<\/p>\n
